Healthy bodies, healthy minds and healthy wallets: The chakra of holistic wellness

Thanks to the ceaseless endeavors of the respected Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, the United Nations General Assembly designated June 21 as the Global Day of Yoga. The term "Yoga" originates from the Sanskrit root yuj, signifying the act of joining, yoking, or uniting. It embodies the amalgamation of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfillment, harmony between humans and nature, and a comprehensive approach to health and well-being. The notion of "wellness" is commonly linked with physical and mental well-being. While exercise, nourishment, and meditation hold significance, genuine holistic wellness encompasses a wide range of aspects of our existence, encompassing physical health, mental well-being, personal growth, and financial stability. Could ‘magic mushrooms’ be legal in RI? House vote brings it one step closer.

Legislation to legalize so-called "magic mushrooms" cleared the Rhode Island House of Representatives on Monday. Lawmakers voted 54-11 to pass an amended version of House Bill 5923, introduced by Rep. Brandon Potter, D-Cranston. The bill would make it legal to possess up to one ounce of psilocybin. It would also allow the drug to be prescribed to patients with "a serious or life-threatening mental or behavioral health disorder," if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves such uses. Psilocybin was banned in the 1970s, but is now seen as a promising treatment for PTSD, depression, and other mental health disorders. Since then, Oregon and Colorado have legalized the use of psilocybin under supervision. Keep reading at The Providence Journal

‘Everything is natural and tastes so good’: microfarms push back against ‘food apartheid’

n a recent Sunday morning in South Los Angeles, Crop Swap LA volunteers and staffers harvested bags of freshly picked produce from the front yard of a residence. Located just steps from Leimert Park Plaza, the Asante microfarm is the first of what will be numerous microfarms created by the organization, which is dedicated to growing hyperlocal food on unused spaces “in the neighborhood, exclusively for the neighborhood”. “Everything we’re growing is nutrient-dense and the food remains in the neighborhood,” says Jamiah Hargins, who founded Crop Swap LA in 2018 as a small monthly swap of surplus produce. After spending years in finance and consulting, Hargins decided to create a local food distribution system to address the fact that his neighborhood was a food desert, meaning most reside...

Simplifying the materials we are exposed to is lighter on our system, as well as our wallet when we look at how to make them ourselves. Natural remedies have often held the stigma of being less effective, messy and complicated. However, as I moved from the world of recipe-creating in the kitchen to isolating ingredients to create remedies for specific needs for my ...
